DISCUSSION OF PRESENTATION DRAFTS
- PbWO4 crystal measurements (Richard)
- PbWO4 alternative readout with photodiodes (Andres)
- Fpi from E12-09-011 (Salina)
- Aerogel detector update (Arthur)
- Major comments for all:
- include numbers on slides
- check spelling and symbols in tables and formulas
- check if graphs match text on the slide, e.g., Richard (Crytur slide), Andres (signal slides)
- optimize phrasing on summary/outlook slides
PMT MAGNETIC SHIELDING CONCEPT (Arthur)
- Re-did tests from December 2016 - results are same, but found small error in procedure that has now been corrected (what was assumed to be field read back was actually current input to coil)
- Reminder of shielding concept:
- Mu-metal shielding around PMT to shield transverse fields up to 25 Gauss
- 3 mm soft iron box around the calorimeter to shield any additional magnetic fields
- Test results:
- 500um mu-metal shielding around PMT is an effective solution for fields up to 25 Gauss
- even at 25 Gauss only lose 10% of the signal
- mu-metal shielding is not effective for axial fields - expected axial field at NPS is 0.5 Gauss (Earth's field)
- for fields > 2 Gauss lose considerable fraction of signal
- at fields ~17 Gauss lose basically all signal
- Conclusion: NPS PMT shielding concept has been shown to work well
AEROGEL DETECTOR (Arthur)
- Techs may be available to work on SP-11 tray cover in next two weeks
- Samip (U. Regina) expressed interest to help with installation of tiles in SP-11 tray
- SP-11 tray installation on list of priorities for this month
